Use email messages to interact with SalesLogix

As a SalesLogix client user, I want to interact with SalesLogix through email messages formatted in plain language, so that I can create a Ticket, update a Contact, or retrieve Account information from an email client on any desktop or mobile device quickly without launching or accessing the SalesLogix client. 

 

For example:

 

To update a Contact, I would send an email that included the following:

----------------------------------------------------------------- 

To: EmailInteraction@MySalesLogixServer.com

Subject: Update Contact(John Abbott)

Body - 

Mobile: (312) 555-4321

Assist: Ms. Jane Smith 

----------------------------------------------------------------

This would update the mobile number for John and also update his assistant's name

To retrieve a Contact, I would send and receive the following:

----------------------------------------------------------------- 

To: EmailInteraction@MySalesLogixServer.com

Subject: Retrieve Contact(John Abbott)

Body - blank

-----------------------------------------------------------------  

This would retrieve:

Name: John Abbott

Account: Abbott Ltd.

Title: President

Asst: Ms. Jane Smith

Address:

   4206 W. Grand Avenue

Suite 900 Chicago, IL 60651 

USA 

Work: (312) 555-7854

etc

We can do this fairly easily already using inexpensive 3rd party technology like TaskCentre. In fact I do it ;-)

I like this idea, and as RJL has pointed out many of us do this with custom solutions, TaskCentre, etc. However I think this low tech approach to integrating with email is a great idea and should be a stock product offering.

I agree. I think this would be awesome ootb. One of my favorite parts of basecamp is the ability to e-mail messages into the project portal and reply to notifications to comment on threads. Not saying that doing it as a 3rd party tool is a bad route either. But having a standard way to do it would be pretty cool. It would be especially cool to have it built into the customer portal, letting customers get e-mail notifications and just reply to comment on the ticket or attach a file. Even better knowing that the e-mail format would be the same for *any* SLX customer portal.
